VISTA participates in Museums + Heritage Show 2019
Dr David Ross (University of Exeter) attended the Museums+Heritage Show, which took place in London, 15-16 May. The 27th edition of the largest UK fair dedicated to museums and the heritage sector had over 150 suppliers showcasing latest trends and products related to heritage conservation, interpretation and technology, and visitor experience. The event was an excellent opportunity to learn what is currently available on the market, including state of the art technological devices for heritage interpretation, apps and software platforms that integrate a range of modules that enhance the visitor experience and enable the collection of important data about visitors and their journey. Several developers of AR and VR content were also presenting new ideas and products of great variety in terms of features, technical requirements and budget.
The event also featured over 50 talks with heritage professionals on several themes, including new trends in exhibition design and interpretation, understanding your visitors and engaging new visitors. Some of these talks were particularly useful to share knowledge about visitor profiling and segmentation, and discuss tools for capturing visitor data, such as Audience Finder, as well as learn from the experience of other sites, such as the Tower of London and Japan House (London).
Understanding the current market of digital technologies applied to the heritage sector, as well as the experiences of others, is useful in that it increases our knowledge of the sector’s needs and helps the VISTA team learn and adopt best practices for implementing the project goals.
